APPLIED BUSINESS
AS and A2 LEVEL
MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
1. Four GCSE’s at grade C or above, including English and Mathematics.
2. It is advisable for those students considering the Double Award to have
previously studied Business and have achieved a pass at grade C or higher.
AIMS
To provide students with a broad background and understanding of how business organisations operate. The course provides an insight into the world of retailing, advertising, management, marketing, finance, training, planning, communication and human resources.
To enable students to experience a “hands on” form of study where they accept ownership for the organisation and development of the tasks set.
Relevant work experience and understanding of different types of business organisation are integral to the course.
ASSIGNMENTS
Completion of portfolio work is an essential component of this course and will span a number of weeks. Students must therefore PLAN their time in order to complete by the hand in date.
Students doing the Single Award must complete a MINIMUM of 2 pieces of coursework at AS level and
2 further pieces of coursework for A2.
Students taking the Double Award must complete 4 pieces of coursework at AS level and a further
4 pieces of coursework to achieve the A2 qualification.
CONTENTS
This course is flexible because it provides a real choice about which parts of the qualification students wish to take.

ASSESSMENT
Students will be expected to spend a significant amount of time OUTSIDE class time in order to meet the demands of this course. By necessity a large percentage of this time will be in the form of research. On-going assessment will also take the form of set homeworks, specimen examination papers, written exercises or group work.
USEFULNESS IN THE FUTURE
The course allows students to study all aspects of Business and enables them to progress on to Higher Education or Employment.
