ART
AS and A2 LEVEL
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
A grade C or higher in GCSE Art and Design is preferable: If Art has not been studied at GCSE level then a portfolio of evidence that shows your ability will be needed.
AIMS
- To enable candidates to develop personal responses to ideas, observations, experiences, environments and cultures.
- To extend flexibility to allow students to work from their strengths.
- To provide an appropriate foundation for further study of Art and Design or related subjects in higher education.
COURSE CONTENT
AQA, Art and Design (Fine Art Endorsement). The course will cover drawing and painting, mixed media including collage and assemblage, sculpture and printmaking.
PORTFOLIO UNITS
At AS Level students are expected to complete 2 ‘UNITS’
UNIT 1 is an internally set project and represents 50% of the total AS mark (25% of the total A2 marks)
UNIT 2 is a controlled test set by AQA representing 50% of the total AS mark (25% of the total A2 mark). You will have 8 weeks preparation time and will complete the final piece or pieces in a 5 hour controlled test.
At A2 students are expected to complete a further 2 ‘UNITS’
UNIT 3 is an internally set project and represents 25% of the total A2 mark
UNIT 4 is a controlled test set by AQA representing 25% of the total A2 mark. You will have 8 weeks preparation time and will complete the final piece or pieces in a 15 hour controlled test.
Assessments will take place in the summer term and are internal, with external moderation by AQA in June.
Art and Design is an acceptable A level for university and art school entry and relevant to the ‘designed society’ in which we all live. It could lead to opportunities in many ‘creative’ areas, Design, Architecture, Fashion, Media, Theatre etc.
