Introduction from the Assistant Head
Dear Student
Thank you for considering St Wilfrid’s 6th Form to continue your studies.
This is an important decision for you to make and we hope that this information will enable you to make an informed choice for your future.
We are very much aware of how crucial your achievements over the next two years will be, in terms of university and employment opportunities. The 6th form Management Team is committed to provide you with a Post 16 experience which will value you as an individual and encourage and support you to aim high and give your best.
We offer a wide range of AS and A2 courses, with the ability to combine academic with vocational subjects. Our 6th Form teachers are experienced and well qualified and you can expect high standards of teaching and learning. Within subject areas there are opportunities for visits and field work, to enhance your enjoyment and understanding of the course material and you will be well prepared for your examinations.
As a Specialist Technology College, our resources for advanced level study are outstanding. These include a large Learning Resource Centre, 6th form study rooms and excellent, fully equipped, science laboratories, teaching rooms and work shops.
Information technology is now an integral part of advanced level work and we are able to provide extensive facilities. 6th Form students have ready access to computers, all with internet connections, for research and independent learning.
Whilst your academic performance is clearly very important to us, we are also committed to providing you with a much wider educational experience, to encourage independence and the development of social and personal skills. In addition to our academic curriculum, we offer a wide and varied enrichment programme and also many positions for responsibility and leadership throughout the school. We also have superb sport, drama and music facilities, for a broad range of activities, at all levels
Our Post 16 ‘vision statement’ is at the heart of all we strive to do and we are very proud of our reputation for high academic standards within a caring environment. As part of our commitment to personalised learning, you will be a member of a tutor group and have regular tutorials to advise and help you to achieve your potential.
We have approximately 200 students in the L6 and last year about one third of the students came to us from other schools. Our large 6th Form Common Room and many social events, create a very warm and friendly atmosphere, ensuring that all students settle well and enjoy their education.
I hope the website answers all your questions, but please do not hesitate to contact me at school, for further information or to arrange a visit.
Mrs Hopkinson
