DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY
Design and Technology aims:-
• to prepare young people to participate in a rapidly changing world.
• to develop pupils’ creativity in the solving of practical problems.
• to develop communication skills.
• to broaden pupils’ understanding of industrial production and commercial practices.
Year 7 pupils will be taught to:
• Work in a well-ordered and safe way.
• Design and make products and systems.
• Use IT to enhance their learning when designing and making.
• Critically reflect upon and evaluate their own and existing products.
Year 7 pupils are taught within two bands. Each band is divided into six teaching groups. Groups rotate through a programme of six focused activities which make up the Design and Technology Curriculum. These activities are in Food Technology; Textiles; Resistant Materials; Product Design; Systems and Control; Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacture; Graphics.
Assessment is continuous and always encourages pupils to succeed. This will include:
• Design folder work
• The manufacture of practical solutions
• Homework assignments
• Written tests of the theory and processes covered in the activities
