ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

A GCSE in Food Technology (Grade 'B' or above) and an enthusiasm in this area of study.

AIMS

The syllabus aims to encourage candidates to develop their own design and technology capability. The two year course provides opportunities for candidates to involve themselves in practical problem solving
activities and relate knowledge and skills to that activity. The syllabus aims to stimulate a deeper understanding and a wider perspective of factors involved in commercial food production.

CONTENTS

The content will be delivered through

  • Research Activities
  • Focused Practical Tasks
  • Design and Make Activities
  • Industrial Links

There are four units to be completed:-

Unit 1 – Product development

Unit 2 – Knowledge and understanding of food materials, products and processing.

Unit 3 – Further study of food materials, products and processing.

Unit 4 – Commercial product development.

Key Skills are delivered as an integral part of the content of the course.

ASSESSMENT

Coursework- Two pieces of coursework to be completed - 40%

Examination - Papers in the Focus Area of food materials, products and processing.
