ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- GNVQ Leisure and Recreation, Intermediate, Merit or Distinction.
- Four GCSE's at grade C or above including English or Mathematics.
(Minimum acceptable grade in English is D).
AIMS
To enable the students to experience a different form of study where he/she adopts ownership for the organisation and development of the tasks set. The course allows students to study all aspects of Leisure and Recreation and enables them to progress onto Higher Education or Employment. It provides relevant work in this vocational area.
ASSIGNMENTS
An ability to study independently is a key aspect of all vocational courses at Advanced Level. Tutors are available for guidance outside of timetabled classes, but students need to adopt self-discipline and good personal organisation, and are responsible for completing units of work for the given deadlines.
CONTENTS
From September 2005, the course has become an AS course followed by an A2 course. There will still be options within this format for progression and a choice of Single Award or Double Award.
There will be some choice of units for students studying for the Double Award.
Units that will be studied are set out below.
What will I learn about?
The unit structure is designed to allow for a variety of pathways.
- Single AS Award – 3 units
- Double AS Award – 6 units
- Single Advanced Level Award – 6 units
- Double Advanced level Award – 12 units (two Advanced levels)

ASSESSMENT
Assessment will be through a variety of methods. One third of units will be externally assessed either by examination or through controlled assignments.
Other units are based on coursework which is produced over the course and assessed by tutors and externally moderated. Evidence for coursework may be presented in a variety of ways, including written reports, presentation, visual displays or practical work.
Work is graded A – E, in line with other ‘A’ Levels, with marks being allocated for each unit and totalled to give a final grade.
USEFULNESS IN THE FUTURE
The course is accepted along with an additional 'A’ Level by Higher Education establishments. It prepares the students for a variety of employment in the Leisure and Recreation professions.
