MUSIC
AS and A2

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
You do not need to have a GCSE in Music, but must have the ability to perform on an instrument or sing.

CONTENT
AS
Unit 1: Performing
You will perform a short recital on your main instrument.
Unit 2: Composing 1
You will submit a selection of harmony exercises as well as an instrumental composition.
Unit 3: Listening
You will explore 2 areas of study: 18th/19th century Orchestra and Jazz 1920 to 1960.
A2
Unit 4: Performing
You will deliver a 15 minute recital.
Unit 5: Composing 2
The creation of a film score will be a significant part of this unit.
Unit 6: Listening
You will study one of these: Music for Film or Post 1945 Popular Music or Music for the Stage

ASSESSMENT:
Your performing will be assessed by a visiting examiner. Composing elements will be assessed by coursework, and listening topics by examination.

USEFULNESS IN THE FUTURE
There many exciting job opportunities for musicians in the media and Classical music arena. There are also more general skills cultivated in music, which employers would find extremely valuable.
