Adverse Weather Policy

In the event of adverse weather conditions arising during the day, lessons may be disbanded but school will endeavour to stay open in the interests of pupils’ safety. The following procedure will apply:-
1. The Administration Support Manager to contact Transport Co-ordinator regarding special buses and also Radio Lancashire (quoting DFE School Number), requesting parents to collect their children if possible.
2. Once a decision has been made to disband lessons all pupils will go to Form rooms.
3. POD Assistant Heads with Year Managers to organise distribution of Form Lists to every Form Tutor. These will be used to record as and when each child leaves school.
4. Children who normally walk to school will be allowed to walk home as soon as registration is complete with tutors recording the names of pupils released.
5. All other children will remain in school to:
i) Be collected by a parent/guardian. This can only be done via the main reception desk.
ii) Wait to travel on the special buses. In the event of their non-arrival, pupils should still remain in school where they are safe and dry to await support from the emergency services; as pupils leave for such buses their names are recorded by the Form Tutor.
iii) Be collected by an adult designated with the responsibility or to be released to a place of safety such as work, agreed by the parent preferably in advance. Pupils can only be collected via the main reception desk.
6. Pupils who catch a normal service bus should remain until collected by an adult (see (i) and (iii) above).
7. As pupil numbers decrease all pupils will go to the Hall as directed by the POD Assistant Heads in conjunction with Year Managers. Tutors should ensure that their form list is passed on to the Hall at this time.
8. Staff should consult with the Headteacher or the designated senior member of staff before going home.
9. Members of the Leadership Team will remain in school until all students have been collected.
In the event of adverse weather conditions arising overnight the Headteacher/Deputy Headteachers or the Facilities Manager will consult and ring Radio Lancashire (FM 95.5). As far as possible, staff will be informed by telephone by their Line Manager if school is closed. Any staff unable to travel to school please follow the usual procedures for staff absence.
