Student Support Programme

The 6th Form Management Team readily acknowledges that many Post 16 students need support, advice and guidance to make a success of their courses. Time management, organisation, production of high quality work and meeting deadlines are requirements which some students may need some help with and there are a number of avenues of support available.

All students will be in a tutor group and will have regular 1:1 tutorials at which students will be offered support and strategies to achieve their potential and develop advanced level study skills. Data will be used to assess the students’ progress and current attainment and an Action Plan will be put into place to remedy any potential concerns. The Action Plan will be updated at follow up tutorials, to promote continued improvement.
The tutor is there to help students with any problems, whether academic or personal and will endeavour to make their experience in the 6th form both rewarding and enjoyable.

The Learning Support Manager, subject teachers and the members of the 6th Management team are also available and only too willing to give help and guidance to students who need some support, for what ever reason.

The progress and attendance of all students will be monitored closely and any concerns will be referred to their tutor or the 6th Form Team and strategies will be put into place to hopefully address the problem.
Continuing, unresolved issues however, will trigger the disciplinary process and parents will be informed. Formal warnings will be given by the Post 16 Achievement Coordinator and the Assistant Head teacher and support given to remove any barriers to learning. Finally the Head Teacher may withdraw the student from the course if no improvement is achieved.

Throughout the programme, the aim is to support the student by encouraging them to become independent young adults and empower them to take responsibility and enjoy their own learning experience.
