Catch-Up Premium 2019/20
The literacy and numeracy catch-up premium gives schools additional funding to support year 7 pupils who did not achieve the expected standard in reading or maths at the end of key stage 2.

A pupil awarded a scaled score of 100 or more has met the expected standard in each test.

A pupil awarded a scaled score of 99 or below has not met the expected standard in the test.

‍At Saint Wilfrid’s C of E Academy, we use this premium to provide strategies and interventions which are specifically aimed at pupils who are behind in literacy and numeracy. These interventions are tailored for the needs of individual students and delivered by trained members of staff.

‍Students and Catch-Up Premium
‍In 2019 to 2020, schools will receive the same overall amount of year 7 catch-up premium funding they received in 2016 to 2017, adjusted to reflect the percentage change in the size of their year 7 cohort, based on the October 2018 census.

‍How we will use the Catch-Up Premium
‍Saint Wilfrid’s C of E Academy has used this funding to train and employ a team of staff to deliver a range of Catch Up interventions. This funding has also been used to purchase intervention programs. Some of these programs are electronic and require licences and logins; funding has also been allocated to the purchasing of these licences for our catch up students.

The intervention programs include Corrective Reading, guided reading, Lexia, Accelerated Reader, Hegarty Maths and Times Table Rockstars.

Small group interventions have been proven to significantly improve the achievement of learners who find literacy or numeracy difficult. Each intervention begins with diagnostic/formative assessments which enable the tutor to identify an appropriate focus for teaching for the individual learner (for literacy, a book of an appropriate level of difficulty; for numeracy, activities of an appropriate level of difficulty that address a specific component of numeracy).

Each intervention then comprises a number of small group teaching sessions each week, as well as some 1 to 1 sessions. Throughout these interventions, the emphasis is on providing effective personalised learning support for the individual learner within a positive, supportive and enabling framework.
