Subject Introduction

At St Wilfrid’s Academy, we believe that personal development is a cornerstone of well -rounded education. We are committed to providing an ambitious and robust curriculum that includes Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE), as well as Relationships and Sex Education (RSE).

This integrated approach ensures that students are not only equipped with essential knowledge but also develop the skills and attributes necessary for success in the 21st Century.

PSHE aims to encourage all students to grow, develop and flourish into confident, resilient and compassionate individuals and as members of our society. It encourages and equips students with the knowledge and skills to make decisions that contribute to healthy and balanced lifestyles, positive relationships, economic well-being, the achievement of aspirations and their involvement and impact within the wider community. We believe that PSHE enhances our vision to equip all students with the knowledge and skills to be able to live out the Academy vision ‘Lord direct us to live life to the full.’ Hence the title for our PSHE subject is ‘LIVE’.

Sixth Form

Subject Information

At KS5 PSHE is delivered through a tutor time programme titled ‘The Journey of Life’. This extends students' knowledge and skills developed at KS3 and KS4 to prepare them to thrive for life beyond school. This means that key topics are revisited and built upon in increasing levels of depth and complexity as students' progress through their education journey. This age-appropriate framework enables students to develop a richer understanding of important life skills, enabling them to critically engage within the topics discussed.

The Journey of Life curriculum is delivered through a series of engaging videos and corresponding worksheets. Through this programme, students will explore a range of important topics including careers, finance, personal safety, sexual health, and life beyond school. These lessons are designed to help prepare students for real-world challenges and opportunities

At times, we may invite guest speakers into school to complement the topics covered in our lessons. These visitors will be carefully selected and used thoughtfully to enhance and enrich students’ learning experience.
