“So, what are you telling me?”
How good are you at listening? I think I’m better than I actually am. I could definitely benefit from clarifying the key points to messages I have received. I had the amazing opportunity to represent Compassion UK at a church in Rochdale last weekend. It was a celebration service, as the congregation already sponsor a large number of children. I got to update them on the amazing difference they were making and encouraged them that their giving was such a blessing. During the service my daughter was able to share a story of how a village in Rwanda had helped the minibus that got stuck, by rebuilding a bridge to help them get back. Sharing good news is such a privilege. Sharing good news is the mission of followers of Jesus.
Last weekend, tennis was the hot topic of debate in our house. We had a mixture of generations present and the discussion was, ‘When did Virginia Wade win the US Open and Wimbledon?’ One section of the conversation tried to recall where they were when they watched it and whether or not it was in black or white or colour. A number of different years were suggested. At the same time, one of the other members of the group used their understanding and returned the definitive answer in a few seconds, after saying, “Alexa…”
We are in an age of information like never before. But let us be reminded of the words of Jesus in John 14:6. “I am the way, the truth and the life.” In the age of information, where do you find truth? Jesus is the truth and his words, no matter what generation you find yourself in, bring life to all.
This week, make sharing truth and life your aim. Doing this, you are following Jesus’ example and bringing hope to those who hear.
